BlogPost 23 – ‘PS Magazine” Saluted “Gunsmoke”—When Both Were Young

This twenty-third BlogPost in our ongoing, year-long salute to the U.S. Army’s famous “PS Magazine” during its Sixtieth Anniversary Year presents the PS 81 (August 1959) salute to “Gunsmoke” when the classic television series was in the fourth year of its eventual twenty-year run.

The recent death of James Arness, a/k/a U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon, prompted Fitz to recall the circumstances surrounding the creation of that issue, plus Will Eisner’s look back at it a year later.

Joe Kubert examines the impressive Front Cover, below, and discusses Eisner’s handling of the subject.
